who we are
The School of African Languages
Many people long to connect more deeply with African culture but feel limited without the language. Others from the African diaspora want to reclaim their heritage and pass it on with pride. At The School of African Languages, we believe language is the key that unlocks identity, connection, and opportunity.
That’s why we became the UK’s first dedicated school to offer a wide range of African languages to the public. We make learning accessible, engaging, and practical, so you can move beyond translation apps and step into real conversations that build bridges across cultures.
Our mission is simple: to help you discover the richness of Africa through its languages. Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or exploring Africa for the first time, we’re here to guide you.
By joining our community, you’ll not only learn a language, you’ll gain confidence, cultural fluency, and the tools to shape a future where African heritage is celebrated and shared with the world.
Any language taught well provides benefits of global awareness and the ability to identify with other cultures..

👧🏿👦🏿 Do you deliver online courses for children?
We are excited to now offer classes for children aged 5 and above.
Our standard group language courses are designed for learners aged 16 and over, but we are actively developing tailored programs for those under 16 to ensure greater access for all.
For our younger learners, online sessions are led by patient and supportive teachers. To ensure safeguarding, we kindly ask that a supervising adult be present during each class.
💰 What are the course prices?
Our courses are designed to be accessible, with prices ranging from £65 to £650—so there’s an option to suit every budget.
You can pay in GBP (£) or USD ($), and PayPal will automatically calculate the amount in your local currency for a smooth checkout experience.
If you’d like more details, simply get in contact with us and we’ll be happy to guide you through the options.
🗣 Will I be able to speak fluently after my SOAL course?
Our courses are designed to give you a strong foundation in your target language, starting with essential vocabulary and common phrases. With access to course materials, live sessions with your teacher, and online meetups with fellow learners, you’ll quickly gain the confidence to build your grammar and hold real conversations.
For those who want to go even deeper, we’re also developing an intensive grammar module and we’re working hard to make it available as soon as possible.
How long does it take to become fluent in a language?
There is no real answer for this, as it will vary from person to person, but we would suggest consistently setting 25-30 minutes a day for language learning in addition to our course, with a native speaking teacher to guide you. We can guarantee that you will definitely get you closer to that goal.
